Waldner delivers laboratory containers to Libya
In Libya, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) has installed laboratory containers from Waldner, which were completely planned and designed in Wangen im Allgäu, Southern Germany. These laboratory capacities are intended to increase the accessibility of PCR tests in the region.
On behalf of the German government, GIZ supports developing and emerging countries in the fight against corona. At the end of November, the first of three Waldner laboratory containers was delivered to the port city of Tobruk in Libya. This is now about to be put into operation. The support is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Libyan Ministry of Health. Waldner already supported GIZ in the conception and planning of this laboratory project. The new facility is primarily used for PCR testing for SARS-CoV-2, thereby increasing testing capacities in the Mediterranean region.
The fully functional laboratory is built into a standard shipping container, which now stands in the car park in front of the Tobruk hospital. The South German laboratory manufacturer also supplied the complete equipment for the tests, such as laboratory devices. In addition to examinations and tests related to the corona virus, the lab in the container can be used for a range of different virological, bacteriological and diagnostic analyses. It meets the international standards of biosafety level 2, so that infectious pathogens can be handled safely.
In the upcoming weeks, two more mobile laboratories from Waldner will be installed in the city of Nalut in western Libya and in Garabulli, a city in the Tripoli region.
