Waldner supplies its first mobile COVID-19 testing laboratory
Waldner Laboreinrichtungen has teamed up with service provider Ecolog and container supplier McLabor to install a first mobile COVID-19 testing laboratory in Luxembourg, which is now able to start making an important contribution in the fight against the coronavirus.
“Get yourself tested! It plays an important role in us being able to free up our lives over the coming weeks and months,” Professor Ulf Nehrbass, CEO of the Luxembourg Institute of Health, urges the country’s citizens. The intention is to test the population for COVID-19 every two weeks across 17 testing stations – starting immediately. Testing capacity had to be created as quickly as possible. Containerised testing laboratories such as those of Waldner, which have been designed according to the WHO/CDC guidelines for the SARS-CoV-2 test, are mobile and can be deployed at short notice.
Within just four weeks, Waldner and McLabor have been able to design and put into operation an initial mobile coronavirus testing container, which will be available as a turn-key design in future: fully furnished and equipped as a laboratory, it will be capable of processing up to 4,000 tests a day. The testing laboratory was constructed and connected within one day, which means that mobile test capacities can be made available in a minimum of time in the exact location they are needed most.
The Waldner mobile testing laboratory is a turn-key, self-contained system that only requires electricity and water supplies, and enough space for its construction. Even though the focus is currently on SARS-CoV-2 tests, the system contains a fully functioning microbiological (virological, bacteriological and diagnostic) laboratory in the smallest of spaces, capable of performing e.g. genetic identification and testing, molecular biological identification tests and many other diagnostic methods.
