Quentin Cooper to Headline at Lab Innovations 2014
Quentin Cooper will be headlining day two of the Royal Society of Chemistry conference at Lab Innovations 2014.
Writer, host, academic and presenter, Quentin Cooper, will deliver his keynote address on the image of scientists.
Lab Innovations, taking place on 5 & 6 November 2014 at Birmingham’s NEC, is the UK’s only event dedicated to laboratory equipment, technology and services. Cooper is perhaps best known for presenting Britain’s most listened to science show, BBC Radio 4’s Material World. He was famously described by The Times as ‘the world’s most enthusiastic man’ and ‘an expert on everything from pop music to astrophysics’.
Cooper’s keynote address on the image of scientists is timely. According to the latest research by Lab Innovations, taken from over 112 leading scientific UK organisations, 75% do not think enough graduates are attracted into a scientific career. 91% of organisations think more should be done to excite young people about science. Indeed 75.4% feel there is a real risk of the UK’s top scientific talent moving abroad.
Day two of the free-to-attend Royal Society of Chemistry conference at the show will also feature Rodney Townsend, discussing ‘Horizon 2020 – European Funding for Research and Innovation’. Ian Wrightson, Member of Royal Society of Chemistry's Environment, Health and Safety Committee (EHSC), will talk about ‘Fire Safety in Laboratories’ while Richard White, Regulatory Specialist at Intertek will explore ‘Deadline June 2015 for new classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) regulation’.
Quentin Cooper’s involvement at Lab Innovations follows the news that Robin Ince and Andrea Sella are also speaking at the show. Katie Morhen, Lab Innovations Event Manager comments: “We’re thrilled to have Quentin Cooper on board. He completes an impressive line-up of speakers at Lab Innovations this year. This industry moves at such a rapid rate, so it is crucial that the content we provide is top notch.”
In addition to the Royal Society of Chemistry conference, Lab Innovations will play host to a full exhibition, featuring the latest laboratory technology & consumables, analytical & biotech equipment from leading industry companies. Campden BRI, the UK’s largest independent food and drink research body will be carrying out its own practical workshops, plus hosting a new two day paid for seminar programme.
Lab Innovations is also supported by Gambica and open to all lab managers and scientists, including those working within the chemical, life sciences, food & beverage industries plus those in research institutions.
Lab Innovations 2014 will be held on the 5 & 6 November, 2014 at Birmingham’s NEC. Visitor registration is now open – register free online.
