LGC Awarded ISO17025 UKAS Accreditation for Occupational Drug Testing in Oral Fluid
LGC, an international life sciences measurement and testing company with a specialism in testing for drugs of abuse, is pleased to announce that they have been awarded ISO17025 accreditation for Occupational Drug Testing in Oral Fluid by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
In April 2014, the Occupational Drug Testing (ODT) team at LGC was audited by UKAS for ISO17025 accreditation for detection of drugs of abuse in oral fluid. The positive outcome of the audit allowed LGC to be awarded ISO17025 accreditation as an extension to scope on 2 May 2014. This internationally-recognised standard provides further evidence of the quality associated with LGC’s analytical expertise in a growing range of fields.
Michalakis Michael, Manager for LGC’s ODT team commented: “We are proud to gain ISO17025 accreditation for drugs of abuse analysis in oral fluid samples. It marks a significant milestone in further underpinning the exceptional quality of our results in occupational drug testing. The accreditation provides demonstrable evidence of LGC’s continued proficiency in this growing area.
The accreditation schedule for the testing of oral fluid samples comprises the screening and confirmation testing of amphetamines (including methamphetamines), cannabis, cocaine, methadone and opiates and complements our existing UKAS accredited urine testing methods. The accreditation recognises the rigorous checks in place at every stage of LGC’s testing process, starting when a sample enters the laboratory through to the issuing of test results which can be traced via a robust chain of custody protocol.
UKAS themselves explain the significance of accreditation on their website: “Accreditation is the only mechanism that determines the technical competence and integrity of the organisations offering testing services. ISO/IEC 17025 not only contains requirements for the quality management system of the organisation but they also include detailed and specific technical criteria for the operation of the technical service including ensuring the competence of personnel.”
