Advances In Single-Cell Research

IFC Application Hotspot from Fluidigm Corporation The Summer 2010 edition of the popular e-newsletter - IFC Application Hotspot from Fluidigm Corporation is now available free to download from http://www.fluidigm.com/newsletters/2010edition1_v5/2010edition1_v5.html.

Dedicated to advances in single-cell research the Summer 2010 issue of IFC Application Hotspot includes two pioneering customer application studies, a recorded video interview with the Genome Insitute of Singapore and a new single-cell gene expression protocol.

The first application study reports on how resolution of cell fate decisions can be revealed by single-cell gene expression analysis from zygote to blastocyst. Using Dynamic ArrayTM Integrated Fluidic Circuits (IFCs), and the mouse preimplantation embryo as a model, scientists from Genome Institute of Singapore applied single-cell analysis to study the expression dynamics of 48 genes across mutliple developmental time points. The described work illustrates the power of single-cell expression analysis to provide insight into developmental mechanisms.

The second application study describes how using Dynamic ArrayTM IFCs, scientists at Keio University analysed the expression of various cadherin genes in long-term hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and subpopulations of the HSCs isolated from the endosteum to better understand cadherin function as it relates to HSC-niche interactions.

Dr Paul Robson, of the Genome Institute of Singapore, discusses in a video interview, his latest research on single-cell expression data which is crucial for a detailed molecular understanding of mammalian development from fertilization to embryo implantation. His research has direct impact on clinical applications in the areas of regenerative medicine and assisted reproduction. IFC Application Hotspot is your quick source for the latest news on how integrated fluidic circuits (IFCs) are enabling ground breaking advances in life science research.  In each edition - Fluidigm report upon new products, applications innovations, and customer advances using revolutionary IFC technology.

Fluidigm develops, manufactures and markets proprietary Integrated Fluidic Circuit (IFC) systems that significantly improve productivity in life science research. Fluidigm's IFCs enable the simultaneous performance of thousands of sophisticated biochemical measurements in extremely minute volumes. These "integrated circuits for biology" are made possible by miniaturising and integrating liquid handling components on a single microfluidic device. Fluidigm's systems, consisting of instrumentation, software and single-use chips, increase throughput, decrease costs and enhance sensitivity compared to conventional laboratory systems.

For more information a recorded webinar 'Fluidigm Single-Cell Gene Expression Profiling (www.fluidigm.com/pr/single-cell-webinar.html) allows you to listen to researchers describing their latest stem and cancer cell findings using Fluidigm IFC technology.
