The quality control of fine powders in a size range from 1 µm to 3 mm can be substantially improved with Retsch Technology’s new CAMSIZER XT
More precise and faster analysis of particle size and particle shape helps to improve the product quality, reduce rejects and save costs. The design of the Camsizer XT is based on the well-proven optical particle measurement system Camsizer but is optimized for finer samples. Not only the improved optical resolution but also new options for material feeding allow for an extended application range. Fine particles tend to agglomerate which makes it difficult to record the properties of a single particle. Therefore, it is important to have various possibilities of feeding the sample to the analysis area to be able to find for each material the optimum between the desired dispersion of the agglomerates and the undesired destruction of the individual...
Cryogenic grinding was never more convenient or efficient
For size reduction of sample materials which cannot be processed at room temperature, RETSCH’s CryoMill is the ideal choice. An integrated cooling system ensures that the grinding jar is continually cooled with liquid nitrogen before and during the grinding process. Thus the sample is embrittled and volatile components are preserved...
For the grinding of solids the use of a cyclone can be beneficial, depending on the material properties
The rotation of the mill’s rotor or a connected vacuum cleaner produces a rotating air flow inside the cyclone, thus optimizing the air throughput. As a result, sample and grinding tools are cooled and material discharge is improved. These effects are particularly beneficial when grinding temperature-sensitive materials. Further advantages are the complete recovery of the sample material as well as the possibility to process larger sample volumes...

Jun 23, 2012RETSCH introduced the new CryoMill generation at this year's ACHEMA!
The CryoMill has been specially designed for cryogenic grinding. An integrated cooling system ensures that the grinding jar is continually cooled with liquid nitrogen before and during the grinding process. Thus the sample is embrittled and volatile components are preserved. Thanks to the Autofill System, liquid nitrogen is continually refilled in the exact amount which is required to keep the temperature at -196 °C. The user never gets into direct contact with the LN2 which makes operating the mill particularly safe...

Due to the fact that only a very small amount can be won from each animal, cashmere wool is an expensive resource for the textile industry which makes it susceptible to falsifications. Instead of cashmere, the cheaper sheep wool is used and the product is then declared as genuine cashmere. Or products only contain a small amount of cashmere while the rest is wool from other animals which is processed without declaration.

Mykotoxins are natural metabolism products of molds which have a toxic effect on humans and animals. Just like micro-organisms which generate antibiotics, molds which generate mycotoxins have spread all over the world. Aflatoxins are the most toxic form of mycotoxins. Some types of food show an increased risk of aflatoxin release due to fungal infestation: dried fruit, spices, nuts (peanuts, hazelnuts, pistachios) and grain (wheat, corn).
