The vented design of the base plate assures uniform heating and cooling when immersed in a water bath. The cover locks the liner in place and prevents vial pullout. The prescored PTFE/Silicone/PTFE liner permits easy needle penetration, while the molded PTFE/Silicone mat locks into each of the 96 vials and reseals after multiple injections thus reducing the chance of solvent evaporation and cross contamination.

This isn’t a new problem. As a matter of fact, in the late-70’s when Jerry Finneran was working for another company, in the plastics department, he was trying to think of ways to reduce the cost of such a vial. He suggested that using a plastic vial, since plastic is less expensive than glass, and bonding a glass insert inside it, which would maintain the glass surface being in contact with samples that the lab techs required, would reduce the cost of the vial....

The inserts preassembled with polymer bottom springs act as shock absorbers to protect sample needles from bottoming out during sample extraction.
