Earlier this month, BOC Sciences announced to launch its peptide bioconjugation service for researchers involved with medicinal chemistry, diagnostics and therapeutic study. Previously, the company has already released conjugation services for various biomolecules, including antibody, protein, enzyme, liposome, PEGylation, and nano to macro particles. As clients’ requirements vary from each other, these bioconjugation services are often tailor-made accordingly.

Peptide bioconjugation refers to the conjugation of a peptide and another molecule via covalent bonds. The other molecule is widely ranged and could be drugs, polymers or nanoparticles. As a useful biotech tool, bioconjugation of peptides and proteins can largely improve the biological performance of drugs. In addition, this new conjugate can also be used for diagnostic purposes or for the enhancement of therapeutic effects both in vitro and in vivo.

“Peptide bioconjugate presents a combination of properties and functions inherent to each of its individual components, and on the other hand, they also present certain new properties. For example, when peptides are conjugated to drugs, such a transformation is able to bypass the identification of macrophage crossing biological obstacle and accrete the entrance of the target cell,” says a representative of BOC Sciences. “Peptides can also be conjugated with other molecules such as oligonucleotides, fluorescent dyes, chromogenic enzyme substrates, drugs, toxins or carrier proteins to transform the original function or achieve certain purposes.”

It should be noted that the covalent conjugation of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains to proteins, known as PEGylation, has become a well-established method in the field of targeted drug delivery. PEGylation can effectively alter the pharmacokinetics (PK) of a variety of drugs trough methods such as enhancing the retention time of the therapeutics and slowing the degradation mechanism of drugs inside a tissue or cell.

In addition to PEGylation and peptide-drug conjugates, there are many other forms of peptide bioconjugations that are available at BOC Sciences, including: peptide-protein/antibody conjugation, dendritic Peptide, peptide-small molecule conjugation, peptide-siRNA conjugates, surface immobilization, synthetic polymer modification, oligo peptide conjugates, peptide-DNA conjugates, peptide-RNA conjugates, peptide-siRNA conjugates, other oligo peptide conjugates, and liposome conjugation.

“With years of accumulation and experience in peptide bioconjugation, our scientists can quickly choose the most appropriate strategy and technique for your project to meet any special requirements. Throughout the process, confidentiality, efficiency and competitive prices are what we can guarantee,” the representative continues to add.

Biomolecule labeling and antibody conjugation are two primary bioconjugation forms frequently carried out at BOC Sciences. The former is widely applied in molecular biology and medicine, while the latter is used for the adding or improvement of valuable physicochemical, toxicological and pharmacological properties.
