From workflow efficiency to sustainability, here are the essential questions to get the most out of this years Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference

With over 80 exhibitors, two days of talks from leading scientific speakers and over 1,200 delegates from across the laboratory industry, the Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference 2024 has a lot on offer. The event is taking place on May 22 at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham. Here, David Zaborowski, group marketing manager at laboratory equipment supplier Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) discusses the five questions to ask when you attend this year’s show to get the most out of your visit.

What sets your product apart and how could it improve my workflow efficiency?

Understanding the unique features of a product and its potential impact on your workflow efficiency is crucial for making informed decisions about product adoption. For example, there are many PCR machines available, but by asking this specific question, you could find one with rapid cycling technology, a higher throughput capacity, and an intuitive interface that would enable faster, more efficient PCR analysis, and remote monitoring for added convenience

Can you share any success stories, real-world uses, or collaborations you are involved in?

Exploring the real-world applications and collaborations of the supplier can provide you with some concrete evidence of a product’s effectiveness and potential to innovate your laboratory research. For example, recent collaborations between SLS and global health care company Merck, have seen the implementation of the Spectroquant Prove+ spectrophotometers in critical sectors like drinking water treatment, wastewater management, and industrial process monitoring.

How does your technology directly tackle the challenges faced in my industry?

Recognising how technology tackles industry challenges can empower investment in solutions that drive significant enhancements in research outcomes and operational efficiency. For example, for sectors plagued by contamination concerns, the product might feature advanced detection systems equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and algorithms to swiftly identify contaminants, facilitating proactive risk mitigation. This ensures product integrity, regulatory adherence, and boosts consumer confidence.

How do your products align with SLS' sustainability attributes?

A big theme at this year’s show is sustainability. As such, SLS has launched its Sustainability Attributes, a collection of awards that exemplify sustainability in each of the five stages of a products life cycle. For example, the Eppendorf Research Plus 12 channel pipette has achieved three of five sustainability attributes, being designed to reduce the use of raw materials (raw material award), made in a facility that runs on over 90 per cent renewable energy (product manufacturing award) and its country of origin has an environmental performance index (EPI) of greater than 60.

How does your product fit into the latest advancements and discussions happening in the conference talks?

Understanding how a product aligns with the discussions at the conference can offer valuable insights into its relevance. For example, Dr. Adam Rutherford’s talk titled “All Science is Political – All Data is biased” highlights the importance of addressing biases in research, a concern that some products might address by providing unbiased data analysis tools. Similarly, Helen Czerski’s presentation, “Blue Machine – the ocean engine that shapes our world,” underscores the significance of ocean dynamics, an area where environmental monitoring tools might offer support.

With these five questions in mind, you’ll be well-prepared to navigate the Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference, maximising your experience and gaining valuable insights into the latest advancements in the laboratory industry. Whether you’re seeking innovative solutions, exploring sustainability initiatives or looking to streamline your processes, engaging with exhibitors can provide you with the knowledge you need to push your research forward.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect with some of the industry’s biggest scientific suppliers, discover technologies on the cutting-edge, and network with industry experts. Register for the Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference today to secure your spot at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on May 22 and take your laboratory operations to the next level.
