Robin Ince is headlining the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) conference, at Lab Innovations on 5 & 6 November 2014 at Birmingham’s NEC. Robin Ince, a stand-up comedian, actor and writer, famous for popularising science, will deliver a keynote address on the image of scientists.

robin inceInce is talking on day one of Lab Innovations, the UK’s only event dedicated to laboratory equipment, technology and services. Ince is perhaps best known for presenting the BBC radio show ‘The Infinite Monkey Cage’ with physicist Brian Cox and for his lively presentation style. He has famously conducted live experiments into the science of comedy and laughter. He and his team have set out to discover the secret of timing, whether people are born funny, and if computers are able to tell jokes.

Day one of the free-to-attend RSC conference at the show will also feature Professor Andrea Sella, whose chemistry demonstrations have filled theatres around the world. Sella will be talking about ‘Reducing the Environmental Impact of your Lab’, whilst Gareth Kane, Director of Terra Infirma will be discussing ‘Making Sustainability Happen’. Continuing the environmental and sustainability themes, the conference programme will also include a talk on ‘The Carbon Neutral Laboratory’, by Professor Peter Licence, who currently runs the GlaxoSmithKline carbon neutral laboratory, based at The University of Nottingham.

On day one of the show there will also be an opportunity to attend a Chemistry World Panel - a roundtable panel debate chaired by the RSC, giving industry experts and show attendees the opportunity to discuss some of the critical issues that have arisen throughout the day.

In addition to the RSC conference, Lab Innovations will play host to a full exhibition, featuring the latest laboratory technology & consumables, analytical & biotech equipment from leading industry companies. In addition to this, Campden BRI, the UK’s largest independent food and drink research body will be carrying out its own practical workshops, plus hosting a new two day paid for seminar programme.

Lab Innovations is also supported by Gambica and UKAS and its attendees are lab managers and scientists working within the chemical, life sciences, food & beverage industries plus those in research institutions.

Lab Innovations 2014 will be held on the 5 & 6 November, 2014 at Birmingham’s NEC. Visitor registration is now open.
