LaVision BioTec Announces the First International Users
LaVison BioTec, developers of advanced microscopy solutions for the life sciences, announces the dates and venue of the first international users' meeting on their UltraMicroscope light sheet microscopy products.
The first LaVision BioTec UltraMicroscope User Meeting will take place at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine in Münster, 21-22 September. Participants are cordially invited to join with all active and prospective UltraMicroscope users in a forum on the latest developments in light sheet microscopy.
With this scientific gathering, LaVision BioTec is fostering the exchange of thoughts, experiences and views on this emerging and very active research field. The meeting will combine scientific talks and discussions with practical demonstrations and workshops. The aim is to create a living network between users and those interested in the field. Some of the most challenging questions regarding sample preparation, hardware and data handling will be addressed by the attendees.
An international group of speakers will provide the backbone for the meeting which will comprise three scientific sessions. These will include Professor Vance Lemmon from the University of Miami who will discuss his applications. His group is part of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and have demonstrated the applicability of light sheet force microscopy for the comprehensive assessment of optic nerve regeneration, providing in-depth analysis of the axonal trajectory and pathfinding. The subject of sample clearing and preparation will be addressed by two leading advocates: Dr Ali Ertürk from LMU Munich and Dr Pablo Ariel from the Rockefeller University in New York. The final session will cover software and data processing and will be led by Professor Friedemann Kiefer of the MPI Muenster. Other confirmed speakers at time of writing come from institutes in Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain and Singapore.
No user meeting would be complete without comprehensive workshop practicals. Thus, these will concentrate on ways to best generate data on the different UltraMicroscope platforms for the broad field of applications currently being produced. To register and to receive more details on the meeting, participants are asked to contact LaVision BioTec by email at usermeeting@lavisionbiotec.com or by calling +49 (0)521 9151 390.
The new UltraMicroscope II from LaVision utilizes six thin light sheets to excite samples while the fluorescence light is detected with a sCMOS equipped microscope that is mounted perpendicular to the plane illumination. By moving the sample through the light sheets one generates a 3D image stack at cellular resolution.
