Thermo Fisher Scientific Wins the R&D 100 Award for its Groundbreaking Capillary Ion Chromatography System
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has announced that its Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-5000 Capillary Ion Chromatography (IC) system has been named an R&D 100 award winner by an independent judging panel and the editors of R&D Magazine. This award recognizes the system as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced the past year. The Dionex ICS-5000 delivers unmatched precision, accuracy, and sensitivity in the environmental, food and beverage, bioscience, biofuel and power generation industries.
The Dionex ICS-5000 capillary IC system is a true walk-up IC, meaning that is always on and always ready for use. It sets new standards for convenience, performance and versatility. The system features capillary IC and Reagent-FreeTM IC capabilities, enabling continuous operation for months at a time using only 5 L of deionized water per year, and significantly reducing waste. Because it's always on, no time is wasted on daily start-up and calibration procedures; analysts can run samples at any time, which increases overall throughput.
To simplify operation, IC CubeTM cartridges combine all capillary consumables, and advanced techniques, such as two-dimensional IC, are easy to set up and use for routine detection of contaminants such as hexavalent chromium or perchlorate in drinking water at < 10 ppt minimum detection limits. The Dionex ICS-5000 also supports all legacy IC methods using traditional standard-bore and microbore columns, and it offers multiple detection options (conductivity, amperometry, UV-vis and MS).
The Dionex ICS-5000 also received a 2010 GIT Innovations Award Bronze Star.
