Enhance Sample Preconcentration and Reduce Workflow
Thermo Fisher Scientific has developed a method that uses solid-phase extraction (SPE) well plates to improve sample preconcentration prior to analysis while maintaining high levels of precision, accuracy, recovery, and sample cleanliness.
Application Note 20941: SOLAμ for Pre-Analysis Sample Concentration demonstrates the ability to decrease the lower limit of quantitation by a factor of 20 without the need for lengthy evaporation procedures that may compromise analytical results. By performing a preconcentration step during sample preparation, analysts can reduce workflow, provide stability for analytes susceptible to loss or degradation during evaporation/reconstitution, and improve limits of detection.
This new method overcomes time-consuming and detrimental issues associated with traditional-scale SPE. Use of a high-performance liquid chromatography column optimized for mass spectrometry detection provides fast and efficient separation without the need for an ultrahigh-pressure system. This enables bioanalytical laboratories to reduce sample failures due to high reproducibility at low elution volumes, process samples that are limited in volume, and improve the stability of biomolecules by reducing adsorption and solvation issues.
