New Compact, Research-grade UV-VIS Spectrophotometers Deliver Industry’s Highest Absorbance Level and Ultra-Low Stray Light

Shimadzu UV-2600 and UV-2700 UV-Vis spectrophotometersShimadzu Scientific Instruments has launched the compact UV-2600 and UV-2700 UV-Vis spectrophotometers, which feature advanced optical systems and Shimadzu's proprietary "Lo-Ray-Ligh" diffraction gratings. The new spectrophotometers substantially reduce stray light, enabling confident and convenient use for routine analysis and demanding research applications.

With its double monochromator design and Lo-Ray-Ligh diffraction gratings, the UV-2700 achieves ultra-low stray light of 0.00005 %T at 220 nm. Its photometric performance range has been expanded to 8 Abs, with a transmittance value of 0.000001%. This eliminates the need to dilute samples and allows the measurement of low transmittance samples.

Equipped with a single monochromator, the UV-2600 features a measurement wavelength range to 1400 nm, using the ISR-2600Plus two-detector integrating sphere. This ultra-wide range permits measurements in the near-infrared region, and expanded research of photovoltaics and other materials. The UV-2600 also features the Lo-Ray-Ligh gratings for high efficiency and low stray light levels.

The UV-2600 and UV-2700 come standard with new UV performance validation software for applications requiring hardware validation. The software supports USP, EP and JP test requirements. Operating under the Windows® 7, XP and Vista environments, updated UVProbe software features a variety of data processing, calculation, QA/QC functions, GLP/GMP support and support for DNA/RNA/Protein quantitation methods. When used in conjunction with UVProbe Agent, compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 is attained. Optional software enables color and thickness measurement, as well as thermal melt (Tm) analysis.

In response to feedback that typical spectrophotometers are too large, the design of the UV-2600 and UV-2700 reduces the required installation space by 28 percent, while maintaining the same sample compartment size. In addition, power consumption has been reduced to 170 VA, for a 10-percent energy savings.

A wide range of accessories is available, including a multi-purpose sample compartment, film holder, specular reflectance measurement attachment, and capillary cell sets for precious and biological samples. Accessories will significantly expand the functionality of the UV-2600 and UV-2700 by accommodating several industry applications.
