Enzymes catalyse reactions in biological processes and their presence in biological samples is of interest to a variety of Clinical, Industrial and Educational analysts.
Several manufacturers offer test kits to enable determination of enzyme activity by Colorimetry. The kits are designed so speed of reaction is dependent on enzyme concentration at a controlled temperature. Whilst there are a wide variety of different enzymes, many kits use NADH, a co-enzyme which converts to NAD when reacted, to help determine the enzyme of interest; NADH adsorbs at 340nm and NAD does not. During the reaction time interval, the rate at which NADH is converted to NAD is proportional to the concentration of the enzyme of interest and the measured decrease in absorption at 340nm is multiplied by a factor (supplied by the kit manufacturer) to determine enzyme concentration....

VICI Valco’s Cheminert Model M6 and M50 Liquid Handling Pumps are a new generation of pumps for precision handling of liquids and/or gases, producing a bidirectional pulseless flow with a range of over six orders of magnitude (5 nL/min to 5 mL/min for the M6 Pump; 1 µL/min to 25 mL/min for the M50 Pump).
An excellent replacement for syringe pumps, the Cheminert pumps offer better performance and eliminate the need for refill cycles and syringe changes. The M6 and M50 are positive displacement pumps, which means they are self-priming and tolerant of any gas which may find its way into the fluid lines. There is no separate fill cycle, and the capacity is unlimited. RS-232 and RS-485 communication protocols are incorporated into the microprocessor-driven controller. (USB interface requires an adapter.) The included software package controls flow rates, flow direction and metered volumes...

Greiner Bio-One, a technology partner for the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industry, has developed EASYstrainer, a cell sieve for the filtration of cell suspensions.
The sieve is ideal for preparing single cells for flow cytometry and to separate individual cells after organ digestion as part of the primary cell extraction process. When filtering cell suspensions it is particularly important that the sterile filter material is not contaminated through accidental contact. That’s why Greiner Bio-One has designed EASYstrainer with a circumferential mantle surface and handle fitted directly on the sieve. Handling is also made easier by the sieve’s structured surface. In addition to this, the blister packaging ensures reliable, aseptic removal of sieves from the pack...
The new Dissomate media preparation unit from Copley Scientific is an automated, compact system for preparing and gravimetrically dispensing the pre-warmed, de-aerated, dosed dissolution media required for accurate tablet dissolution testing.
Operating on the “filtering, warming, and stirring under vacuum principle” recommended by the pharmacopoeias and FDA, it can prepare 8 litres of fresh dissolution media in under 15 minutes. These fast preparation times in combination with rapid dispensing reduce the down time between dissolution experiments, with proven savings compared with manual preparation. Dissolution testing is vital in tablet manufacture. Accurate analysis requires well-prepared dissolution media as air bubbles and other dissolved gases are widely recognised as sources of problems...
