ZEISS wins R&D 100 Award for Superresolution Microscope
ZEISS Elyra 7 with Lattice SIM has been selected as winner in the 'Analytical/Test' category
ZEISS is among the winners of the prestigious R&D 100 Awards 2019, with judges from R&D Magazine selecting ZEISS Elyra 7 with Lattice SIM for superresolution microscopy as an award recipient in the “Analytical/Test” category.
ZEISS Elyra 7 with Lattice SIM is a microscope system for superresolution imaging in biomedical research. Its novel Lattice SIM technology is extremely light-efficient and fast. Researchers profit from less photodamage and high imaging speed. Lattice SIM illumination pushes the boundaries of fast superresolution as it now can be used for almost all imaging experiments with live and fixed specimens. As a result, fast processes in living samples can be examined gently, with a large field of view, in 3D, over long periods of time and in two colors simultaneously.
Lattice SIM provides optical sectioning and a doubling of diffraction-limited resolution in 3D. The Lattice SIM technology improves on the classic principle of superresolution structured illumination microscopy (SR-SIM), making it possible to achieve an image acquisition rate of up to 255 frames per second (fps). Additionally, the high illumination pattern contrast and robust reconstruction allow for imaging in deeper or more scattering tissue.
The achievable spatial resolution and frame rate of ZEISS Elyra 7 can be precisely matched to the requirements of the experiment. The unique technology allows to overcome speed-, 3D- and photodamage-limitations of classic SIM systems and opens the door to new discoveries in many areas of life sciences.
The R&D 100 Awards is an annual international competition recognizing the 100 most exceptional innovations in science and technology. The winners come from industry, academia, private research institutes and laboratories. The Award Ceremony will take place on December 5th in San Mateo, California during the R&D100 conference.
