Vivienne Parry OBE to facilitate international Laboratory Show
Nottingham, UK: 14 May 2014. The Scientific Laboratory Show & Conference, East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham
Writer and broadcaster Vivienne Parry OBE will introduce and facilitate The Scientific Laboratory Show & Conference to be held in Nottingham on 14 May this year. Hosted by Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) and organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the biennial event is expected to draw over 1,000 UK and overseas delegates interested in laboratory technology, logistics, safety, project management and commercialisation.
A scientist by training Vivienne is best known for her many programmes on Radio 4, such as the series ‘Just So Science’ and for her television work, which includes presenting the iconic BBC science show ‘Tomorrow’s World’. She writes for the Times, Guardian and Telegraph but has also been a columnist of the News of the World and an agony aunt for Good Housekeeping. She is Vice Chair of Council of UCL, a council member of the MRC, an executive member of the Genomics England Board and is heavily involved in science engagement work, for which she received her OBE in 2011.
“It will be a pleasure to be back in Nottingham taking part in this event. The city has an outstanding heritage in medical science. The MRI scanner and Ibuprofen were both Nottingham developed. By providing laboratory managers and technicians with an insight into the latest research techniques and technology, SLS and the Royal Society of Chemistry are playing a crucial role in maintaining and developing this expertise.”
Peter Lister, Operations Director at SLS says: “We are delighted to have attracted someone of Vivienne’s calibre to work with us on the Show. I particularly admire her ability to bring often complex scientific themes to life, and her enthusiasm for her subjects is infectious.”
Aurora Antemir, industry programme manager at the Royal Society of Chemistry says: “We are very pleased to welcome Vivienne, who is a fantastic communicator and advocate for science, as our lead facilitator to introduce some excellent examples of cutting-edge British technologies at the event.”
The Conference will focus on the latest developments in Innovation and Technology and will feature a full day of talks, interactive sessions and one to one specialist guidance on health and safety issues in laboratories.
The Laboratory Show & Conference is in part sponsored by Thermo Scientific and marks the launch of the 2014 SLS Catalogue when manufacturers and suppliers have access to SLS sales personnel for training and product awareness. An invitation-only Gala Dinner at The Orchard Hotel on 13th May is followed by the Conference which is open to both customers of SLS and visitors.
