Telstar Launches A New Version Of Its Lyobeta Freeze Dryer
Designed for formulation, research and development applications, the new version of pilot-scale freeze dryer incorporates improvements in control system architecture, management software, process control and interface features
Telstar has launched a new version of the Pilot-scale Freeze Dryer, Lyobeta, specifically designed for small scale formulation, research and development work.
The Telstar Lyobeta range of laboratory freeze-dryers is specially designed for the field of experimentation, research and formulation to develop recipes in pharmaceutical freeze-drying processes. The new version of the Lyobeta, which offers the flexibility, performance and small foot print required in a laboratory unit, incorporates developments related to process control, including a PLC-based control system and improvements to control and programming capabilities, management software and interface features, to make it the most complete, efficient and convenient pilot unit on the market. Lyobeta bridges the gap in the market that in the past was filled with large-size laboratory equipment.
Improvements
In addition to the features of previous Lyobeta, the new series is offering the following improvements: more user-friendly interface: wider 6,5” colour touch screen LCD; improved PLC control and programming capabilities; more extensive range of interfaces to external devices (USB, PC,…) for monitoring and archiving purposes; improved SCADA-based management software; new options, such as control of the process by means of weight variation of the product, additional temperature sensors and simplified installation procedure.
The Lyobeta is produced in batches as a series product but designed with numerous options to configure the product to customer requirements. This method of production provides a very competitive price for a unit with such a broad range of features. The Lyobeta is available in 4 models, with 0.45, 0.6, 0.75 and 0.9 m2 of useful shelf surface area that can be temperature regulated in the range -60ºC to +80ºC. A cascade refrigeration system utilizing ecological refrigerants cools the shelves and feeds a -80ºC condenser.
Analytica 2014
The new Lyobeta will have an official launch presentation during the next Analytica exhibition (Munich - April 1-4, 2014). In addition, Telstar will also show at Analytica its innovative solutions for the biotech and laboratory markets. Regarding biological safety cabinets, the company will feature Telstar Biovanguard, the high-end equipment designed for use in high risk microbiological research and in highly toxic applications and Telstar Bio II Advance, the new generation of more compact equipment that optimises laboratory space. Telstar will also feature Aeolus, the new series laminar flow benches with 20% more sterile working area. In freeze drying, Telstar will have on show Lyoquest, the only compact laboratory freeze dryer with integrated pre-freezing, primary drying and secondary drying processes. Finally, in cold storage Telstar Igloo, a compact and ecological ultra-low temperature freezer for secure preservation of samples, will be on display.
Telstar, part of the azbil Group, is today one of the world’s top 5 manufacturers of biosafety cabinets and one of the top 3 manufacturers of laboratory freeze dryers. The company holds 15% of the world market share in biosafety cabinets for laboratories and 70% of the market share in Spain. Furthermore, Telstar is the only international manufacturer able to offer integrated process solutions for biopharmaceutical industries with in-house sterilisation, freeze drying, containment and clean air technologies.
