New SLS Pathology/Mortuary Range Aids Post-Mortem Contribution to Medical Research
Significant breakthroughs in medical research rely heavily on data collected from post-mortem procedures and subsequent in-depth laboratory analysis.
To support this highly specialised work, Nottingham-based Scientific Laboratory Supplies Ltd (SLS) has recently launched a new range of pathology and mortuary products for use by forensic and histopathologists as well as by mortuary professionals.
SLS is the UK’s largest independent British-owned supplier of scientific equipment, chemicals and consumables, and in building the catalogue staff looked into how and why post-mortem examinations are carried out. It is estimated that 33 percent of death certificates fail to list the correct cause of death and may be the result of a drop in the number of consented post-mortem examinations carried out with permission when there is uncertainty about a natural death.
Sandie Hurley, Clinical and Disposables Sales Manager at SLS says: “The drop in the number of consented post-mortem examinations could be a huge loss to medical science; they are vital to the next steps in the prevention and cure of common health conditions. The work of the histopathologist in particular provides valuable insights into cause of death, especially of those with long-term chronic illness as well as people prone to genetic diseases. And it is this ongoing research we want to support through our new range of tools and equipment.”
The SLS Pathology/Mortuary catalogue is the ‘shop window’ to an extensive range of over 300,000 products. Highlights within the range are:
- Thermo Scientific histology equipment
- An extensive range of post mortem products
- Simport histology cassettes
- GlovePlus disposable gloves, exclusive to SLS
