Quality Control of Immunoassay Testing is Now Stable for 5 Years
Thermo Scientific MAS Liquimmune controls offer extended shelf life for fewer costly lot changes
Clinical chemistry and manufacturing laboratories performing quality control (QC) will now have relief from QC standard lot changes for up to five years.
The Thermo Scientific MAS Liquimmune controls are designed to monitor immunoassay test procedures on automated instruments, and the analytes covered include those routinely measured for fertility, thyroid, iron deficiency, endocrine and allergy testing. They are the first clinical chemistry QC material with a five-year shelf life.
Regulatory QC demands typically require time-consuming crossover studies of QC material when a new lot of control is used. By using a control with a longer shelf life, the inconvenience of changing to a new lot due to expiration is significantly reduced.
Thermo Fisher will highlight the MAS Liquimmune controls at the American Association for Clinical Chemistry Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo, Booth 3135 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga.
“Clinical labs can spend up to a month performing a crossover study each time a lot of controls expires,” says Linh Hoang, MD, PhD, director of quality controls at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “With our longer shelf life, such costly crossover studies can be avoided for up to five years. This simplifies QC for clinical labs by increasing their efficiency while saving them valuable time and money.”
The MAS Liquimmune controls are part of Thermo Fisher’s broad portfolio of clinical chemistry controls. The controls work in conjunction with Thermo Scientific MAS LabLink xL quality assurance software, which is designed to fulfill various regulatory requirements for QC tracking and includes peer data review and troubleshooting capabilities.
