Certified web-based training courses for haematology and clinical chemistry suit shift work patterns

publication date: Jul 4, 2011

Following the ongoing success of HORIBA Medical - UK's newly introduced e-Learning programme, HeLP, these web-based training courses have now secured CPD accreditation from the IBMS. Upon the successful completion of one of the haematology or clinical chemistry focused e-learning courses, the CPD code will be printed on the final certificate. Participants can then enter this code onto their personal on-line portfolio as proof of learning.

web-based haematology and clinical chemistry training courses

The HORIBA Medical e-Learning Portal (HeLP) was introduced by HORIBA Medical's UK team to meet the ever-changing needs of their haematology and clinical chemistry customers. This ensures improved accessibility of training for staff, particularly those working shifts and on-call. Customers completing HeLP courses have found them to be highly user-friendly and interactive, making learning interesting and fun. Furthermore, since courses are modular, this has enabled users to complete their training at a time and pace that suits their work patterns.

All HeLP courses are developed and written by subject matter experts within HORIBA Medical - UK and tailored specifically to the needs of the organisation, be it an NHS Trust, private healthcare group or university research group, and the staff to be trained. For example, non-laboratory specialists, eg doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants, now frequently use haematology systems, such as HORIBA Medical's ABX Micros ES60 haematology analyser, in point-of-care environments and often ask for extra assistance. In many such environments, there is also often a mandatory requirement for certified evidence of competency.

Ranging from ‘Beginners Guides' to haematology and instrumentation, through to refresher training for laboratory experts, HeLP courses are a unique off-site service designed to fully complement and integrate with existing training programmes. Furthermore, such courses provide ideal data gathering opportunities, enabling managers to monitor how a particular group is progressing and confirm their team is fully qualified and competent.

"We have developed the dedicated support material and training system here at HORIBA Medical - UK using specific software. With our internal knowledge and development expertise we are able to add new modules, alter existing ones or adapt them for specific customers without having to turn to a third party. This enables us to offer an exceptionally versatile and responsive service," explains Mandy Campbell, HORIBA Medical - UKTechnical Manager and e-Learning Project Manager. "We have received very positive feedback on our HeLP courses and continue to work with our customers to ensure they have the dedicated support needed to achieve and maintain consistent competency levels within their teams."
