Lab Innovations and Advanced Engineering set to take the NEC by storm

Birmingham’s NEC will feature the UK’s largest collection of science and engineering innovations on 4 & 5 November 2015.

Show organisers, Easyfairs, will be running Lab Innovations, the UK’s largest laboratory focused event, and Advanced Engineering UK, the largest annual engineering trade show, simultaneously. There will be more than 850 industry leading suppliers, over 80 hours of educational content and over 400 product launches taking place live on the show floor.

20151102Highlights at Lab Innovations 2015 include:

  • Mark Miodownik, materials scientist, engineer, Professor, presenter and broadcaster will give his keynote presentation on ‘Materials for the 21st Century’, taking the audience on a journey fifty years into the future of materials science.
  • Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock leading space scientist and BBC presenter will give her keynote address ‘To Infinity and Beyond’. She will discuss how the advances in instrumentation and lab equipment are transforming our knowledge of the universe and what this could mean for the future.
  • Dr Geraint Morgan, Project Officer within the Faculty of Science at The Open University, will share the findings from the first ever landing of a space craft on a comet.
  • The Royal Society of Chemistry will host its free-to-attend conference exploring topics as wide ranging as 3D Printing, Science in Space and Laboratory Safety.
  • Campden BRI will be running its world-class seminar programme focusing on the critical industry themes of health, flavour and hazardous risks within the food manufacturing industry.
  • New for 2015, the Live Laboratory Demonstration will see leading exhibiting companies giving practical live demonstrations of their latest technologies. This will include demonstrations from Datech Scientific Limites, QCL, Radleys, Bibby Scientific, Xylem, Lovibond, Asynt, Esslab and Spectro.
  • Also new, the European Laboratory Research & Innovation Group (ELRIG) will host its seminar programme which will give a snapshot into its ‘Drug Discovery Programme’.
  • British Measurement and Testing Association (BMTA) will host its paid-for conference focusing on Metrology, with presentations focusing on developments at UKAS, BMTA and EUROLAB, before the delegates are divided into two workshops.
  • Lions’ Lair 2015 will once again allow exhibitors to present their new technologies to a panel of experts, in a bid to be voted best in show. Visitors will also be able to assist in crowning the champion.


20151102Some of the Advanced Engineering UK highlights include:

  • Arion1 will be displaying its ARION1 Land Speed Bicycle, which recently set the British land speed record for the fastest human powered vehicle reaching 75mph.
  • Micro Metalsmiths will be showcasing the world’s most lifelike bionic hand, the bubonic. It is comfortable, precise and intuitive, transforming the lives and abilities of amputees around the world.
  • Libralato will be presenting its MK3 Libralato Engine, the world’s first 1-stroke engine, which is a real game changing technology for affordable hybrid electric vehicles. 
  • Sail Rocket 2, the fastest sailing boat on the planet, which broke the World Speed Sailing Records after reaching over 65 knots, will be on show at the conference.
  • Tesla will be presenting its electric vehicle, Model S, which has access to a global network of Superchargers, a 17-inch touch screen display, up 310 miles of range (NEDC), a five star safety rating and near 50/50 weight distribution.
  • Proteus Cars will be showcasing its Proteus C-Type. This modern classic combines the original, classic aerodynamic design, with the latest motor-racing technology enabling it to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 5.4 seconds.   
  • A group of UK engineering companies, including Land Rover Jaguar, have developed a prototype roof panel to showcase the benefits of flax fibres in automotive manufacturing. This prototype will be launched live on the show floor
  • Niche Vehicle Network will be displaying a selection of UK premium sports cars from its members such as Delta Motorsport, Morgan and Ariel Limited.
  • The Metrocab, London’s first electric taxi, will be showing its electric vehicle technology capable of zero emissions.
  • Norco will be showcasing a section of its recently manufactured Facebook Aquila Solar Plane wing at the show. The wing is part of the first full-scale drone aimed to provide internet access in remote parts of the world.
  • SAE will be hosting its own co-located technology symposium with speakers from international names, including Boeing, Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover and Airbus.
  • Net Composites will be giving expert 1-2-1 advice designed to help with vital materials processes, applications and partner questions

Advanced Engineering UK provides visitors with an amazing four ‘shows within a show’ experience – Automotive Engineering Show, Aero Engineering Show, Composites Engineering Show and Performance Metals Engineering – and will run alongside Lab Innovations 2015.
