Dr Ian Smith was awarded an MBE ‘for services to Health Research' in the Queen's
New Years honours list. Dr Smith is founder
and global medical director of Synexus which has been attributed with
pioneering important developments in the clinical trial industry. The business,
which Dr Smith started in 1992, has since grown to become the world's largest
multinational company dedicated to the recruitment and running of clinical
trials at its own dedicated research centres on behalf of its clients in pharma
and CROs. Synexus has 26 research
centres in nine countries across Asia, Africa and Europe.
Christophe Berthoux
CEO of Synexus commented: "It is an incredible honour for Dr Smith to be
recognised in this away. His vision, which became Synexus, was truly inspiring
and has changed the way in which the industry recruits patients for, and runs,
clinical trials. Synexus has expanded rapidly and has grown to become a
positive advocate for science, and its development, here in the UK. Despite the
overall trend of decline in clinical trials run in the UK Synexus has continued
to increase the number of trials it runs here remaining committed to the
quality and value the UK brings to the industry."
