Whitehouse Scientific
Dr Graham Rideal, CEO of calibration standards company Whitehouse Scientific, has completed a lecture tour of Europe, travelling in style and accompanied by the company’s ShapeSizer Image Analyser.
Visiting manufacturers who weave stainless steel cloth for sieves and filters, Dr Rideal demonstrated the ShapeSizer and showed its value in validating glass bead calibration testing of both plain and complex weaves.
“The ShapeSizer is one of the most cost-effective and reliable particle metrology tools on the market and we have now extended its application to the NIST traceable calibration of both test sieves and filter apertures via the challenge test method,” said Dr Rideal. “The ShapeSizer method, in the sieve calibration mode, measures individual aperture sizes and reports maximum and minimum dimensions. So it makes possible the measurement of aperture shape as well as size, wire dimensions, wire count and open area.”
He went on to say: “It is really important to me that our European customers see the ShapeSizer in action and understand what it brings to sieve and filter calibration. The added pleasure for me was to be able to travel from business to business in my 1967 Aston Martin DB6, a car I’ve have owned for the past 25 years.”
Visiting six different companies at locations in Germany, Holland and Switzerland, Dr Rideal was able to present the state-of-the-art CCD camera, high performance computer and sophisticated software that are the hallmark of the ShapeSizer. The data he presented provided further evidence that the internationally accepted NIST traceable glass bead sieve calibration method delivers results that correlate with optical techniques. This assures users that they can be confident in their glass bead results for both plain and complex sieves, and filters.
“I was also fortunate enough to be able to add in a couple of non-business visits,” said Graham, “to the Circuit de Monaco, home of the Monaco Grand Prix and also Le Mans. A real privilege on both counts!”
