Whitehouse Scientific helping to win rights for street children worldwide
For the second successive time, Chester (UK)-based calibration standards specialist Whitehouse Scientific is sponsoring the Philippine’s national team at the Deloitte Street Child World Cup.
Whitehouse Scientific CEO Dr Graham Rideal has for many years been involved in projects to support young people in the Philippines and in 2010 Whitehouse Scientific was one of the inaugural team sponsors involved in the Deloitte Street Child World Cup.
Street children representing up to 20 countries from all five continents will kick off a ten-day tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 28 March 2014. Not only will they play football but they will also be raising awareness towards gaining rights for street children all over the world.
The Street Child World Cup is a global movement devoted to helping the millions of street children worldwide receive the protection and opportunities that currently they do not have. The movement uses football, art and campaigning to challenge the negative perceptions and treatment of street children around the world.
“I am so honoured and excited for Whitehouse Scientific to be able to sponsor not only the Philippines’ boys national team but now the girls team too,” said Dr Rideal. “Every single child has a basic right to live in a safe and stable environment and no boy or girl should have to live on the streets. This tournament is a great way to highlight this worldwide problem and help to try and find a solution.”
Street Child World Cup partners include the Amos Trust (founders of the Street Child World Cup in 2010), Momentum Arts and Action for Brazil’s Children Street Child World Cup. Their aim is to celebrate the potential of street children, and provide a platform from which they can be heard. .
Whitehouse Scientific produces precision glass microspheres for calibration and is the world's leading manufacturer of single-shot glass microsphere standards.
