Recipients of the 2015 Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grants are Announced

The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation, is proud to announce its 2015 Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grant (PCMNCG) recipients.

pittcon logoThe maximum funding available this year for each grant is $10,000 and is awarded to the science departments of colleges with less than 5,000 full-time students for the purchase of scientific equipment, audio-visual or other teaching aids, and/or library materials for use in the teaching of science at the undergraduate level.

This year’s awardees are as follows:

  • Centendary College, Hackettstown, NJ
  • Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, GA
  • Cuyahoga Community College, Westlake, OH
  • Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, PA
  • Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown,PA
  • Iona College, New Rochelle, NY
  • Keene State College, Keene, NH
  • Kentucky Wesleyan, St Mary’s City, MD
  • Marymount University, Arlington, VA
  • McLennan Community College, Waco, TX
  • Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, Okmulgee, OK
  • Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL
  • Warren Wilson College, Swannanoa, NC

Approximately 70 proposals were submitted and reviewed by the PCMNCG committee which consists of members of the two societies that sponsor Pittcon, the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) and the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP). Since 1974, PCMNCG has awarded more than 300 grants to over 230 institutions.

Some of the equipment and instruments funded last year include: LumaScope 400 iVue Full color miscroscopes, ion chromatograph computers with sofware and interfaces, portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometers, Labquest2 interfaces, UV-visible spectrometers, multiparameter field meters (pH, ORP, conductivity probes), Leica petrographic microscopes with educational cameras, ground penetrating radar systems, flex scan heads, and Vernier SpectroVis Plus spectrophotometers/fluorometers.

Proposals for the 2016 PCMNCG program are currently being accepted. Please visit www.pittcon.org to see eligibility requirements and to download an application. The submission deadline is October 1, 2015.

Proceeds from Pittcon are used by the SACP and the SSP to promote science education at all levels. The Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grants program is one aspect of the efforts of the Pittcon volunteer committee, staff, and sponsoring societies to support science education.
