Enhanced ergonomics: Mateo TL has a large integrated monitor positioned on top of the system, eliminating fatigue from peering into eyepieces. The monitor also facilitates collaborative work with other team members

Effortless cell culture checks and reproducibility in every lab

Leica Microsystems, a leader in microscopy and scientific instrumentation, has launched Mateo TL, a digital transmitted light inverted microscope for cell culture routine. Mateo TL enables all lab members to check and document cell growth conveniently and comfortably. By measuring confluency consistently, they can also be confident in the sample readiness for their downstream experiments.

“Good cell culture sample preparation is an important starting point for every successful experiment, and now it has become even easier and more reliable with Mateo TL,” says James O’Brien, Vice President of Life Sciences and Applied Microscopy at Leica Microsystems. “With the continuous release of new products powered by our easy-to-use software platform, Enersight, we continue to improve the quality, efficiency and reliability of routine tasks through digitalization.”

“During the sample preparation process, subjective judgements are often used for sample readiness assessments, which can compromise the quality and the outcome of experiments, says Jennifer Kulhei, Product Manager, Life Science and Research Microscopy at Leica Microsystems. “Mateo TL helps to address this with more consistent confluency evaluations, no matter who is doing the check or what type of experiment is being undertaken.”

Mateo TL allows labs to establish consistent confluency evaluation criterion to help improve experiment reproducibility. The confluency algorithm measures the percentage of area covered by cells in the image. If there is a risk of contamination, users can also work in a sterile environment by placing Mateo TL directly under the flow hood to protect the outcome of their experiment.

Mateo TL is simple to set up and use, also for non-experts. The microscope is designed to support cell culture checks for principal investigators, post doctorate, PhD and master students as well as lab technicians, all with differing levels of microscopy expertise. Setup can be achieved in under one minute, meaning the lab can benefit from a ready-to-use system that team members can start working on right away. Once set up, cell culture checks can be made simple for the whole team through Mateo TL’s user-friendly software interface for easy live viewing and image acquisition.

Mateo TL also makes cell culture checks more efficient and convenient. Its convenient file sharing features, smart light and camera settings and enhanced ergonomics empowers teams to spend less time on routine cell culture checks and more time on experiments.
