PCRmax AC2

Bibby Scientific Ltd announced today that PCRmax, a leading UK manufacturer of laboratory bench top equipment, has launched the Alpha Cycler 2, a compact dual block system for flexible and cost-effective DNA analysis with a unique reporting and diagnostic function.

The AC2 PCR machine will complement PCRmax’s existing Alpha Cycler range, which includes the single block Alpha Cycler 1 (AC1) and the Alpha Cycler 4 (AC4) that provides four independently controlled blocks in one system.

The PCR market is significantly growing with a CAGR of 8%. It is a dynamic market, with new technologies constantly replacing existing ones, aiming to ultimately improve user experience and enable multi-user functionality. The AC2 will allow for small- to medium-sized groups with multiple users to access a high performance unit that is compact and cost-effective. The platform also saves precious laboratory space as it condenses two truly independent blocks into one compact system, which allows for two different protocols to run on the blocks at the same time.

The innovative software driving the AC2 is user-friendly and intuitive, ensuring that the highest quality of data is readily delivered. The AC2 is coupled with an Android OS interface, and a mobile app that means that users can scan a QR code that allows them to monitor their runs and access programmes remotely. The QR code transfers out a health check/diagnosis report about the PCR machine, the end-user can send this report to a technical team at Bibby Scientific to check for any problems. Through this remote monitoring, potential failures can be tracked and the end-user can be notified, ensuring time and cost efficiencies. This reporting feature is unique and is not available with any other PCR machine on the market.

“We are confident that the Alpha Cycler 2 will ensure time- and cost-efficient DNA analysis with its multi-user functionality for laboratories across the globe,” said Andrew Birnie, Business Development Manager at PCRmax. “We will be showcasing the Alpha Cycler 2 at Lab Innovations 2016.”
