HPMS to power AVCAD
908 Devices’ High-Pressure Mass Spectrometry (HPMS) Technology to Power Next-Generation Advanced Chemical Threat Detector for U.S. Department of Defense
The company and joint partner Smiths Detection selected to develop Aerosol and Vapor Chemical Agent Detector (AVCAD)
908 Devices Inc., a pioneer of purpose-built analytical devices for chemical and biomolecular analysis, has announced they will provide their High-Pressure Mass Spectrometry™ (HPMS) technology platform to the next phase of the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DOD) new Aerosol and Vapor Chemical Agent Dector (AVCAD) program. The company and partner Smiths Detection, a worldwide leader and proven integrator for detection systems, were selected by the DOD’s Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND)’s Joint Project Manager, Nuclear Biological Chemical Contamination Avoidance to be one of only two suppliers to move into the engineering and manufacturing phase for the AVCAD.
908 Devices’ HPMS technology is the core of the company’s commercially available devices, including the MX908™ trace chemical detection device. During the development phase of the AVCAD project, the DOD extensively tested the selectivity, sensitivity and capability of HPMS.
“Being selected for the next phase of this program is tremendous validation of our foundational technology platform and represents a major milestone in our pursuit to deliver on a new standard of chemical detection,” said Dr. Kevin J. Knopp, President and CEO of 908 Devices. “We look forward to working in partnership with Smiths Detection on the AVCAD in this next phase and are truly honored to have a role in protecting our U.S. military.”
