Dr Paul Gleeson and Prof Chanin Nantasenamat on Dotmatics’ Tools and their Research.

dotmaticsDotmatics, a leading provider of scientific informatics solutions and services to the academic, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, reported today that its premium data analysis and visualisation software, Vortex, is being used by university research groups in Thailand to further their scientific research in diverse fields. Dotmatics’ Vortex is designed to assist scientists gain a deeper understanding of their data and help to draw meaningful conclusions in an efficient way.

Thailand and its universities are increasingly placing a strong emphasis on research with great examples of outstanding research centres being Mahidol University and Kasetsart University, Bangkok. Both Universities boast an outstanding set of research teams, countless projects and a number of national and international awards.

Dr M Paul Gleeson, Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Kasetsart University, Bangkok explains, “Dotmatics’ tools allow our group to perform advanced data analysis in a rapid and systematic manner. We have used the Vortex package to quickly analyse data obtained from individual program series, helping to unearth trends not easily servable without the advanced visualisation, data clustering and data pivoting capabilities. We have also employed the software to analyse large diverse datasets containing pre-clinical compound and oral drugs with huge numbers of biological activities and physical properties. The huge range of advanced visualisation types and chemistry tools make the identification of statistically reliable trends in the data possible. It is our opinion that Vortex is an invaluable tool when dealing with complex multivariate datasets.”

Dr Chanin Nantasenamat, Associate Professor at the Center of Data Mining and Biomedical Informatics, Faculty of Medical Technology, Mahidol University, said “Gaining insights from big biomedical data is no easy task considering the inherent high dimensionality of data and the scripting required to develop customised graphs and plots to visualise such information in an intuitive way. Vortex allows us to rapidly develop tailor-made graphs in almost an instant, thus eliminating the need to spend lengthy time coding our own solution. With the great advancements in technology that further contribute to the generation of ever more data, Dotmatics help keep us up to pace with making sense of heaps of data. We also like the fact that Vortex is chemically aware, further making our analysis of the physicochemical properties of large libraries of compounds easier.”
