Reliable and precise determination of carbon (also TIC and TOC), sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen concentrations as well as ash, moisture and volatile content in organic and inorganic samples is possible with ELTRA’s combustion and thermogravimetric analyzers.

The process involves thermal decomposition of a sample with subsequent measurement of the released gases by means of infrared or thermal conductivity cells, or the measurement of the weight loss in thermogravimetry.

The advantage of a combustion analysis compared to elemental analysis with spectrometric methods lies in the wide accessible concentration range from 1 ppm up to 100 %, as well as fast measurements and easy operation of the analytical instruments combined with a high reliability of the measurement result. Depending on the method used, a few milligrams to several grams of sample material are fully decomposed and even inclusions in the samples, which are not accessible with spectrometric methods, are reliably detected.

Thermogravimetric analysis with ELTRA’s TGA Thermostep is faster and more precise compared to conventional methods due to the combustion of large sample quantities of up to several grams and the automated measurement process.
