The Eppendorf refrigerated Centrifuge 5910 Ri has been certified with an “ACT®” Environmental Impact Factor Label by the “My Green Lab®” non-profit organization.

By emphasizing Accountability, Consistency, and Transparency (ACT) around manufacturing, energy and water use, packaging, and end-of-life, the ACT label makes it easier for labs to choose more sustainable products. ACT-labeled products are independently audited by the Sustainability Management & Strategy Collaborative (SMSC, a consulting firm for sustainable management practices) and published by My Green Lab.

Eppendorf Centrifuge 5910 Ri: High quality combined with an ergonomic operation, manufactured with green energy

Eppendorf is committed to continuously improve the environmental impact of its business activities. The company has already implemented several steps such as manufacturing all benchtop centrifuges in modern facilities that are powered by 100% renewable energy, the reduction of air-freight shipping by more than 60% to reduce the CO2 footprint and increasing the share of recycled material in the packaging.

With innovative features such as a user-friendly touch operation, the universal rotor- and adapter system and a wide range of rotors, Centrifuge 5910 Ri helps to make daily separation tasks easier. With regular maintenance and inspection, it can serve scientists for many years.

The Eppendorf Centrifuge 5910 Ri is the first centrifuge in the market to be certified with an ACT label, with more centrifuges to be certified in the near future.

Additional products that received My Green Lab ACT Labels in 2022 include the Eppendorf Biobased Tubes as well as the Eppendorf CryoCube® 440h ULT freezer.

Especially the new Eppendorf Biobased tubes are a true innovation: For the first time, Eppendorf can offer a generation of Eppendorf Tubes® with screw caps in 5.0 mL, 15 mL, 25 mL and 50 mL made of a certified polypropylene based on renewable reused raw materials.

About the ACT label

The criteria for the ACT label, also known as the Environmental Impact Factor (EIF) criteria, were developed with input from industry experts and external stakeholders. Scientists, sustainability directors, procurement specialists, and manufacturers all provided valuable feedback on the EIF criteria, resulting in the comprehensive product labeling program for life science products. The ACT label process entails third-party verification of the sustainable impacts of a product, its operations, and its end of life. Completing this process is a significant achievement that offers a baseline and framework for continuous improvement for the manufacturing community.
