The European Commission annually awards outstanding projects in various research areas with research grants. One special program supports young scientists in international exchange networks.

baseclick GmbHbaseclick GmbH is part of a Marie Curie actions research program within the 7th framework program EScoDNA (an Initial Training Network, ITN). The EScoDNA program is a joint initiative by leading scientists in this field from recognized universities and companies. The research within this project focuses on the application of DNA nanotechnology in the key sectors life science and biomedicine.

In January 2015, baseclick has been awarded another such research grant, the Horizon 2020 Innovative Training Network (ITN), which brings together closely leading scientists in the field of click chemistry and gene therapy. “We are proud that we were able to qualify us again for such a highly recognized research project of the EU together with distinguished scientist such as Prof. Thomas Carell, Prof. Tom Brown, Dr. Andrew Kellett, Dr. Carla Ferreri Dr. Chryssostomos Chatgilialoglu, Prof. Michal Hocek, Dr. Niall Barron, Dr. Tom Brown Jr., and M.Sc. Valentina Sunda. In particular, we are proud of the support of Prof. Barry Sharpless, Nobel laureate 2001”, said Dr. Thomas Frischmuth, CEO of baseclick. The new project “ClickGene” started officially in January 2015.

baseclick GmbH is a young and dynamic company with its head office in Tutzing close to Munich and was founded in 2008 with the shareholders of BASF SE, Ludwigshafen and Prof. T. Carell, LMU Munich. The core of the baseclick technology is the "click reaction", a copper catalyzed cycloaddition allowing virtually unlimited functionalization of both small synthetic oligonucleotides and large gene fragments with unprecedented efficiency. „The Scripps Research Institute“ patented the „click chemistry“ of the inventor B. Sharpless, Nobel laureate 2001. Beside its own patents, baseclick holds an exclusive worldwide license for the use of this click chemistry technology in the field of nucleic acids and offers this technology in research, diagnostics and, increasingly, the pharmaceutical development by modification of RNA molecules.
