Samsung Thales Invest In Universal Collimator for Testing Large Optics
Optical Surfaces Ltd, through its local distributor Jeewoo Photonics Ltd. has been selected to supply a mounted 600mm diameter off-axis parabolic mirror to the Samsung Thales R&D Center (Gyeonggi-do, South Korea).
The high precision (surface accuracy lambda / 20) off-axis parabolic mirror will be used by Samsung's optical system design team as a universal collimator system for testing of large visible and IR optics being developed for use in the next generation of the company's thermal imaging and electro optical systems.
MoonWhe Hur, product specialist at Jaewoo Photonics commented "Samsung sought a supplier with a proven track record in supplying affordable, large off-axis parabolic mirrors in an easy-to-use precision mount. With over 50 years experience and expertise in designing such systems - Optical Surfaces Ltd was the preferred supplier chosen by the optical system design team at Samsung".
Samsung Thales is a leading company of high-tech optical industry in Korea with more than 30 years of experience, and also recognized by its technology in global markets. Samsung Thales has an extensive product portfolio from small optical system to large aperture camera, such as thermal imaging cameras, airborne camera for surveillance and ceconnaissance and large aperture satellite cameras. Samsung Thales has a facility to assemble and align large aperture optical systems, and collaborates with the professional subcontractors manufacturing large aperture mirrors and reference flat mirrors from 500 mm up to 2 m in diameter.
Optical Surfaces Ltd has been producing optical components, mounted optical components and systems for more than 50 years and is now accepted as one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-precision optics and optical systems. The company's ISO 9001-2008 approved manufacturing workshops and test facilities are deep underground in a series of tunnels excavated in solid chalk where temperature remains constant and vibration is practically non-existent. With such stable conditions testing, particularly with long path lengths, becomes quantifiable and reliable. Working with these natural advantages is a highly skilled team of craftsmen with a commitment to excellence in both product quality and customer service.
