LCC Launches Unique Process to Reduce Production Time of Chiral Building Blocks by 75%

Liverpool Chirochem (LCC), a supplier of specialist chemical building blocks within pharmaceutical research and development (R&D), is pleased to announce that it has begun to manufacture its own proprietary chiral building blocks using a unique patented process.

LCCBenefitting from significantly fewer production steps, the process reduces production times by 75% and lowers production costs by 92.5%, for R&D areas within laboratories, universities and research centres.

In order to produce new drugs, medicinal chemists require a continual supply of new chiral building blocks; these building blocks are of high importance and financial value to pharmaceutical R&D, which is reflected in their market size of $5.1 billion per annum. LCC’s catalytic methods allow for highly improved efficiency and enable chemists to produce drug molecules by a shorter, synthetic route. For example, when producing Sedridine, past procedures have involved 12 chemical steps and have cost around £40,000 to produce 1Kg, whereas LCC’s methods allow the drug to be produced in just 3 steps and incurring a cost of around £3,000 per Kg. LCC’s methods allow for a 75% reduction in the production process time and reduce the production costs by 92.5%.

Dr Paul Colbon, the COO of LCC, said “LCC's technologies provide access to a wide range of chiral molecules, with excellent levels of chiral selectivity. Both the efficiency and selectivity of the catalytic processes result in less waste and lower costs of production, which will impact greatly when applied to large scale synthesis."

LCC’s novel, catalytic methods also allow for the production of chiral building blocks that are largely inaccessible using traditional chemical methods. These traditional methods lead to long synthetic routes consisting of many chemical steps that all produce waste, take time and cost money, therefore reducing their commercial viability. LCC’s products are now successfully listed with the major chemical comparison sites and a commercial agreement is in place with a leading distributor.
