Irvine Scientific Introduces PRIME-XV Neural Basal Medium
Chemically-defined medium supports long-term culture of neuronal stem cells for neurological research
Irvine Scientific today announced the launch of PRIME-XV® Neural Basal Medium, a chemically-defined, serum-free medium for consistent neural cell culture, including neural progenitors and neuronal cells. This is the newest medium in Irvine’s PRIME-XV neural cell culture system of media and supplements and supports the culture of human and rodent cells.
Neural progenitors are sensitive to culture conditions and difficult to obtain, and therefore are especially valuable. Compared to media containing serum or undefined components, PRIME-XV Neural Basal Medium’s serum-free, chemically-defined formula is designed to increase experimental reproducibility and culture consistency to maximize the use of these cells. The ability to culture primary and reprogrammed (induced pluripotent stem cell-derived) neural progenitors is offering neurological researchers new ways to screen drugs for toxicity, better understand brain cancer, and use patient cells for disease modelling to advance the understanding and treatment of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and epilepsy.
For applications that require long-term culture of neurons, PRIME-XV Neural Basal Medium can be used with PRIME-XV IS21, a serum-free supplement for neuronal culture that is pre-screened for efficacy and avoids the risks serum presents to neuronal cultures.
This is the newest product in the PRIME-XV neural culture system that provides a completely serum-free workflow. All products are manufactured using stringent raw material qualification and under Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) for consistency and reliability.
