CLSI Publishes a New Document on Laboratory Personnel Management
The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) has published a new document titled Laboratory Personnel Management (QMS16-Ed1).
This guideline describes the process for meeting the regulatory and accreditation requirements of personnel management in the laboratory environment.
Quality System Essential Personnel encompasses recruiting, hiring, and retaining an adequate number of qualified, well-trained, and competent laboratory personnel to perform and manage the activities for your laboratory. QMS16 was written within the CLSI quality management system (QMS) framework to directly focus on achieving quality in laboratory personnel management.
“Laboratory management and staff will find the materials and examples in QMS16 provide a solid foundation to human resource management in their organization,” says Catherine M. Johnson, MA, MT(ASCP), Chairholder of the QMS16 Document Development Committee and Manager of the National Center for Public Health Laboratory Leadership Curriculum at the Association of Public Health Laboratories in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. “This is the perfect guideline for laboratory leadership to use as they partner with organizational colleagues to ensure a well-run human resources system.”
QMS16 offers suggestions for and gives examples of managing the processes required for laboratory personnel to fully achieve their laboratory's operational and quality goals. This new document supports any laboratory's path of workflow from preexamination to examination to postexamination. The document is intended for use by laboratory directors, managers, supervisors, quality managers, and others responsible for implementing, maintaining, and evaluating a laboratory's QMS.
