PILine piezo motor technology for extra low-profile

M-660.55 PILine Low Profile Rotary StageThe M-660 PILine piezo motor rotation stage from Physik Instrumente (PI) offers a new dimension in rapid positioning, for applications including microscopy and mass storage solutions. The high speed U-164 PILine linear motors offer speeds of up to two rotations per second, with a maximum torque of up to 0.3 Nm. Direct transmission onto the ceramic friction ring makes the stage compact and self-locking when at rest, allowing loads of up to 1 kg.

The M-660 offers unlimited travel, has a maximum velocity of 720 o/s and is only 15 mm high.  Stage position can be controlled to 34 μrad resolution using the direct metrology encoder and, in combination with the self-locking design, provides significantly higher position stability than classical stepper or DC motors. The stage has an aperture of 35 mm, making it suitable for the positioning of transmitting optical components, and it can be combined with PI linear stages to build a compact multi-axis system.

PI in brief

Over the last 40 years, Karlsruhe-based Physik Instrumente (PI) has become the leading manufacturer of positioning systems and products based on piezo technology. PI is a private company with more than 500 employees worldwide and a flexible, vertically integrated organization, enabling it to fulfil almost any request in the precision positioning technology field. All PI's key technologies are developed in-house - including precision mechanics and electronics, position sensors and piezo ceramics or actuators - meaning that every phase,  from design to shipment, can be guaranteed. Piezo ceramics and actuators are produced by PI Ceramic, a subsidiary of PI, and the Company has its own sales and service offices in all major markets. PI also maintains testing devices for nanometrology on three continents, and both PI Shanghai and PI USA have additional development and manufacturing resources, allowing rapid local response to specific customer needs.
