Aneesh Chopra, the nation's first Chief Technology Officer, will deliver a keynote address at the 2010 mHealth Summit on Tuesday, November 9, summit organizers announced today. Chopra is Assistant to the President and Associate Director for Technology in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The summit, organized by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health in partnership with the mHealth Alliance and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will be held November 8-10 in Washington, DC.

"With more than 5 billion mobile subscriptions in use around the world, today cell phones are connecting people and communities in resource-poor and hard-to-reach areas. Through the use of mobile technology to improve health outcomes, we can empower patients and health workers from urban centers to rural villages," said Rich Scarfo, Director of the mHealth Summit and Director of Strategic Alliances at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health.

Unlike other mobile health conferences, the 2010 mHealth Summit offers a comprehensive program agenda with high-level representation from across three key intersections of the burgeoning mobile health industry: technology, research, and policy.

Conference sessions will explore, examine, and debate the ways mobile technology can transform health care delivery, research, business, and policy for the 21st Century in underserved communities in the U.S. and abroad, including the developing world.

Chopra will join the keynote luncheon on November 9 at 1 pm, where Bill Gates is also scheduled to speak. The event has drawn an impressive lineup of speakers that includes Dr. Francis Collins, NIH Director; Ted Turner, Chairman, the United Nations Foundation, Bill Gates, Co-Chair, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Dr. Julio Frenk, Dean of Faculty, Harvard School of Public Health.

Verizon Wireless, the partnering sponsor, will be joined by other sponsors including Abbott Labs, American Telemedicine Association, CTIS, McKesson Foundation, Microsoft Research, Pfizer, Qualcomm, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Skype and the West Wireless Health Institute.
